Mr. Erik Lelli, 42, was found dead at the bottom of his apartment building in Soi Sukhunvit 77, in the Suan Luang district in Bangkok. The police believe that he committed suicide by jumping off his balcony. Mr. Suchart Faesawad, 25, a security guard at the apartments told the police that somebody had reported to him that there was a man standing on his balcony, preparing to commit suicide but by the time he arrived it was too late and the man had already jumped to his death.
It is believed that Mr Lelli was employed as a chef in the Sukhumvit area and was from Austria. The police investigating the case found no evidence of foul play in his room and said that it was locked from the inside. They have contacted the embassy in order that his relatives can be informed and questions can be asked as to why this man would want to take his own life. A post mortem will now take place at Chulalongkorn Hospital, the police have said that although this is a suspected suicide they have not ruled other possibilities out.
