Austrian pensioner arrested for child porn in Chiang Mai

The Thai immigration bureau have announced the arrest of a 66 year old Austrian national for downloading and possessing indecent images of children.

The Thais discovered that this was a person living in the Pa Daet sub-district of Muang district Chiang Mai and obtained an arrest warrant.
On November 9th the warrant was served. Pictures published on the IB website showed officers looking at a computer at the home of the unnamed suspect.
His computer and hard drive were found to contain a lot of pornographic images of children.
He was not named but faces 5 years in jail and a 100,000 baht fine. If it can be proved that he shared the images the jail term goes up to 7 years and 140,000 baht.
A Thai woman whose name was on internet usage papers was also pictured on a board next to the Austrian.
The Austrian is now in the custody of the Muang Chiang Mai police.
Immigration chief Maj-Gen Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn was pictured on the IB site on a board related to the crime but not mentioned as having played a role in the arrests on this occasion.
Thaivisa notes that it was unusual in such cases for the suspect’s name to be withheld.
