Austrian tourist found dead on Samui beach

The police in Koh Samui are baffled as to the cause of death of an Austrian tourist who was foundd ead in a deck chair on the beach this morning, Saturday 16th April. The man was discovered by a hotel security guard who informed the police of his grim discovery at around 7am this morning. Pol Capt Danchai Buntam went to investigate the case. Along with medical staff from the Koh Samui hospital they arrived at the scene to find Florian Schweinjer (translated from Thai) dead on the beach lying on a pillow next to a sun lounger in front of a hotel. He was wearing a long sleeved shirt, a white woollen jacked and shorts. There were no signs or injuries or a struggle. The man had been dead for around four hours. A can of soda, a wrist watch and two rings were found on the deceased man’s person, 6,700 baht was found in a bag along with a bottle of methadone, a drug commonly used by recovering heroin addicts.
The man had arrived on the island on March 28th. His body has been sent to Samui Hospital for an autopsy to establish the cause of death. Suicide has not been ruled out.
