British couple vows to return to Hua Hin despite brutal attack

Prime Minister’s Office Minister Panadda Diskul today visited an elderly British couple at Bangkok hospital in Hua Hin.
The couple, Mr Lewis Owen and Mrs Rosemary Owen, and their son were badly beaten up by four Thai men on Songkran day at Hua Hin market after their son accidentally bumped one of the assailants.
The brutal attack became headline news in British media and it has badly affected the image of Thailand.
M.L. Panadda was accompanied by Prachuab Khiri Khan governor Thawee Narissirikul, Hua Hin mayor Nopporn Wutthikul, Hua Hin police superintendent Pol Col Chaiyakorn Sriladecho and a representative from the British embassy during the visit.
The minister expressed regret for the incident and apologised to the couple. The couple said they love Hua Hin and vowed to return.
The couple was due to testify before the court this afternoon before they are to leave Thailand for Britain tomorrow.
