British, New Zealand dual national found dead in Phuket hotel room

Police suspect that a British, New Zealand dual national found dead in his Phuket hotel room last night died from an ongoing medical condition.
The man was a regular at the hotel, which police declined to name, and checked in on October 22, said Lt Chamaiporn Suphakom of the Karon Police.
“Staff at the hotel said that the man was feeling unwell and last Wednesday (Oct 28) moved from his room on the second floor to one on the ground floor,” Lt Chamaiporn said.
Room service found the man’s body slumped in a chair in his new room yesterday evening, and reported the incident to Karon Police at 1045pm, he added.
“Room service served the man lunch at about 2pm yesterday and went back to collect the dishes after the restaurant closed at about 10:30pm. That’s when they found his body,” Lt Chamaiporn explained.
“There were no signs of struggle and his belongings seemed to be in order. We also found a lot of prescription medicines in the room,” he added.
The man’s body was taken to Vachira Hospital in Phuket Town. Police have notified both the British and New Zealand embassies, but are still waiting for confirmation that the man’s family has been notified of the death.
