Briton wanted on 17 sex offense charges arrested in Bangkok | Samui Times

Robert David Hastings, wanted on 17 warrants for alleged sex offences in the UK was arrested on Wednesday in Bangkok. The 61 year old had been working as a teacher at the Kumphawapi school in the Kumphawaip district of Udon Thani. He will now face extradition proceedings.

robert hastingsHastings arrived in Thailand nine years ago, he faces 12 charges of sexual abuse and 5 of indecency with a child under 14. Hastings entered Thailand via the Nong Khai immigration checkpoint and was employed to teach at the school until the end of March next year. He arrived in Thailand in 2005 and has a Thai spouse. He told the authorities that he has contacted and confirmed with the police in the UK that he will fly home to surrender but was unable to raise the money for his fare and asked if anybody could assist him with paying for his travel. He had had no response to that request when he was arrested in Thailand by the Immigration Police who were acting at the request of the British authorities.
