Call center gangs beware – tourism cop Surachet is coming for you!

The head of the tourism police has been put in charge of operations to rid the country of the scourge of call centers.
Thai media said that call centers operating in Thailand were causing damage to the image of Thailand.
In what amounts to an “epidemic” of cases the police are forever busting and investigating criminals in the business of conning both Thais and foreigners living here and around the world.
The criminals are using tourist areas in particular to act as cover for their activities.
Now Prime Minister Prayut Chan-Ocha and his main man deputy Prawit Wongsuwan have told chief of police Jakthip Chaijinda that enough is enough.
Surachet Hakpan, the head of the tourism police has been put in charge of a task force that includes 191 special branch, of which he was formerly head, and crime suppression police.
Their job will be to rid the country of the call center gangs, said Thai Rath.
Call centers often intimate members of the public with false claims allegedly coming from officials. Victims are fleeced of money that is then laundered through bank accounts and other means.
Thailand has become a major center for the gangs’ operations.
