Cash reward scheme for police who arrest bribery offenders scrapped

Last week it was announced that a new campaign had been launched to reward police officers making arrests against anybody attempting to bribe their way out of traffic violation charges. A 10,000 baht reward was given to two officers who rejected a 100 baht bribe from a man driving his motorbike the wrong way on a public highway.
Today it has been announced that the acting Metropolitan Police Chief Maj Gen Sriwara Rangsipramkul has ordered the Traffic Police Division to suspend the campaign. Sriwara reported said that the campaign violated the people’s rights and he would demand deputy Metropolitan police chief Pol Maj Gen Adul Narongsak, who initiated the campaign to explain his reasons behind implementing it.
