Cash rewards for traffic police who arrest those trying to bribe their way out of traffic violations

The police have launched a new campaign designed to stop traffic-law violators who try to get away with bribing the traffic police. Traffic police who arrest those attempting to bribe them will now receive a 10,000 baht reward. Yesterday two officers became the first to receive the reward after arresting two motorists attempting to bribe their way out of the fine.
Pol Maj General Adul Norongsak, the deputy chief of the Metropolitan Police Burea announced that Pol Sub-Lieutenant Seri Triwong and Pol Senior Sgt Major Fukbamrung from the Wat Phraya Krai Police Station received the rewards for rejecting a Bt 100 bribe offered to them by a motorcyclist.
The new campaign that aims to promote honesty and dignity among traffic officers started on Monday. In the past traffic officers have earned a bad reputation for accepting bribes and many incidents have been caught on hidden cameras.
Yesterday Adul urged road users to obey traffic laws and warned against offering bribes to traffic police, he went on to stay that the police will now arrest anyone who attempts to use bribes to get out of trouble.
The first arrest was made after a motorcyclist was seen riding against the traffic near Krungthep Bridge, one officer took a photograph of the incident on his mobile phone before arresting the motorcyclist on the spot, when he offered the one hundred baht bribe he was arrested.
