Court condemns a kidnapper and killer of an 11-year old girl to death

A neighbor who kidnapped and killed an 11-year old girl and then dumped her body in a sewer was on Wednesday sentenced to death by the Trang provincial court.
The kidnap and murder of Nong Pleng whose body was found three days after her disappearance from home in a sewer running parallel to the Wat Phra Ngam-Ban Kuang road in Trang’s Muang district provoked public indignation in the province in mid-May last year.
Police launched an investigation and, finally, managed to pin down a missing neighbor, 36-year old Prathompong Muenbaan, as a prime suspect. He was eventually arrested and indicted in the court on charges of abduction, murder and cover-up of the murder.
Pathompong denied all the charges during the police interrogation and during his trial.
After the announcement of the verdict, the victim’s mother, Mrs Panomwan, said she was satisfied with the verdict and thanked all officials involved in resolving the case and the conviction of the culprit.
