Crane rescues 62-year-old woman from Bangkok fire

Firefighters rescued a 62-year-old woman trapped inside a shophouse in Bangkok’s Bang Khen district early Friday.
Firefighters used a crane to rescue the woman trapped on the second floor of the four-storey shophouse on outbound Ram Indra road near the Maiyalarp Intersection shortly after 2am.
The woman was identified as Pranee Ongkhamongkol.
The shophouse is used as a warehouse by the Sooksan Furniture shop and the owner and the family lives on the third and fourth floor.
Ten fire engines took about two hours to get control of the blaze.
Police said the fire apparently started on the first floor and spread to upper floors. The cause of the fire has yet to be investigated.
Thawee Ongkhamongkol, 41, the owner of the shophouse, said some of his family members came to stay overnight at his house on Thursday because they planned to attend a wedding reception of his sister on the following day.
He said his family woke up when the power went off and when they came downstairs to check, they saw a lot of smoke. They rushed out of the house in panic and forgot to help Pranee out, he told police.
