Cyclist blinded as he gets his eye poked out by protruding bamboo rod

A bicyclist out for an evening run on his exercise bike was blinded in his left eye when he struck a bamboo pole protruding from the back of a pick-up truck.
Jatuporn Aksornsri, 41, was given first aid at the scene by the Bua Luang bend at ban Phe, Rayong by rescue services.
He was taken to Rayong Hospital where doctors were unable to save his eye – it had become completely detached from its socket.
Pick-up owner Khamsing Nariwong, 34, said he was delivering the bamboo and had only one more piece to offload.
He called the emergency services when he saw the cyclist in agony and covered in blood. He couldn’t believe it happened – the area was well lit.
Police noted that a trash can had been placed as protection behind the pick-up but they are investigating how much the bamboo pole was sticking out before deciding on charges.
