Dead foreigner found in Koh Phangan waters with rocks in his backpack

A man’s body has been found in the waters of Koh Phangan. The grisly discovery was made on Thursday. The man, who is believed to be European, was found about 500 meters from the shore close to a popular resort. He was wearing blue shorts and a backpack that contained five heavy rocks among other items. The man’s body was sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in in Bangkok from Surat Thani on Thursday after local police were unable to reach any conclusion as to how he may have died. Police believe he may have been dead for up to five days. Homicide has not been ruled out. Police are unsure as to whether the rocks could have been used to add weight for diving, or if they were used to weigh down the body to conceal a murderous crime. Police in the area are asking all resorts to review their guest lists to see if anybody is unaccounted for.
