Deadly tourist attraction blast ‘aimed a demolition officials’

The fatal explosion at Phetchabun tourist attraction Phu Tab Berk village on Sunday was designed to target officials tasked with overseeing the demolition of illegally built resorts on forestland this week, Royal Forestry Department deputy chief Atthapol Charoenchansa said on Monday.Atthapol made the comment before meeting with national security agencies and local administrators at Phu Tab Berk to follow-up the investigation following the initial results of tests from the blast area.
The tests found that the bomb was newly made and designed to kill.
That has lent weight to the belief the bomb blast is linked to the demolition of the resorts.
The explosion occurred in the area forestry officials and national security officers were slated to gather for the demolition.
The Royal Forestry Department contacted deputy national police chief General Srivara Ransibrahmanakul to request police help with the investigation and the gathering of evidence from Phu Tab Berk groups.
Atthapol said the demolitions will go ahead as planned, although those tasked with the operation to conduct their work more cautiously.
The Sunday morning blast killed Suan Onta, 63, the driver of a tourist pickup truck, who had stopped to relieve himself behind a pavilion near the Pu Hin Rongkla National Park entrance, and wounded two Thai tourists.
