Doctor Arrested For Aiding Human Trafficking Of Thai Babies

A Thai doctor has been arrested for giving medical aid to Thai surrogate mothers in a cross border scheme funded by a Chinese service.
The doctor, whose name has been withheld, has been accused of providing assisted-reproductive services to Thai women acting as surrogates to Chinese couples.
Allegedly, the services were done usually in the Lao Republic, where the Thai women would then return to Thailand until hitting their third trimester. Then, they would be sent to China to deliver the babies.
A woman, suspected of being a broker who allegedly handles financial transactions for the racket, was arrested in Bangkok on Monday. She was later released on 200,000 baht bail. Four other doctors at state hospitals are expected to provide additional information to the anti-human trafficking police.
