Doi Suthep group converts protest rally into prayer meet for footballers

A group of Chiang Mai people and environmentalists on Saturday cancelled their rally against justice officials occupying controversial residences and instead prayed for the 12 young footballers and their coach who have gone missing in a Chiang Rai cave.
The group led by Thirasak Rupsuwan, coordinator of the network to demand Doi Suthep forest back, held a prayer ceremony at the Monument of Three Kings of Chiang Mai at 8am.
The group had initially planned to rally near the residences of judicial officials on Doi Suthep to demand that they stop using their residences.
But the incident at Tham Luang Cave in Chiang Rai prompted the group to instead hold a prayer meeting at the monument, Thirasak said.
