Immigration in Thailand

A foreign person wishing to access the Kingdom of Thailand shall usually obtain a visa from a Royal Thai Embassy or from a Royal Thai Consulate-General. However, citizens of other countries do not need visas if they meet visa exemption requirements.

30 Day Visas

Passport holders from the following countries are eligible for the Tourist Visa Exemption Schema and are not obliged to obtain a visa for tourism purposes when entering Thailand, and are authorized to stay in Thailand for periods not greater than 30 days at each visit.

Foreigners entering Thailand under the Visa Exemption Scheme may only do so for 30 days at a time and no more than 2 times a year.

Single Entry Visa

Single Entry Tourist Visa will be valid for 3 months from the date of issue. You must enter Thailand within the validity of visa.

However, the permitted length of stay is up to 60 days from the date of arrival in Thailand. Travellers should carefully check the immigration stamps in their passports regarding the exact length of stay to ensure that they do not overstay their visa.

Nationals of countries which are on Thailand’s Tourist Visa Exemption List or have bilateral agreements on visa exemption with Thailand will be permitted to stay for a period of not exceeding 14, 30, or 90 days. Nationals from other countries who hold a tourist visa will be permitted to stay in Thailand for a period of not exceeding 60 days.

Visa Extensions

Anyone wishing to live longer or wishing to change their form of visa must apply to the Immigration Bureau (www.immigr.go.th). The extension of stay and the modification of other forms of visas shall be at the absolute discretion of the officer for immigration.
