Family of five killed in Surat Thani collision

Five members of a family including a six-year-old boy were killed when the pickup truck carrying them crashed into the back of an 18-wheel tractor trailer in Surat Thani late on Sunday night.
Noting the absence of skid marks at the scene on Surat-Takuapa Toad in Tambon Ban Thamniab, Khirirat Nikhom district, police suspect the driver had dozed off at the wheel.
Kanon Phathaisong, 45, driving the big rig, saw the pickup approaching from behind. It struck his vehicle without reducing speed, he told police.
The victims were identified as Surat Pirom, 50, his wife Boonruang Pirom, their son Suthiwat Pirom, 28, their daughter-in-law, Orawan Ruangngam, 26, and their six-year-old grandson, Ratchanon Pirom.
