There is a really fabulous Deli in Maenam that not a lot of people know about, but those who do immediately become regular customers. We sent our investigator out to find out a bit more about this culinary hot spot!

The sign outside says you can buy cheese and hams, salads and baguettes, as there is literally nowhere in Maenam to buy neither cheese or ham and I was definitely ready for lunch I decided to check it out. I got inside and was really pleasantly surprised. This deli has a great atmosphere, some tables inside, it has really efficient aircon, so a great relief from the midday heat and a mouthwatering deli counter full of deliciousness. The cold counter had fresh BBQ ham, pepper ham and every unexpectedly parma ham, pepperoni and chorizo! I was just as iSAM_0861mpressed by the selection of cheese, parmesan, Dutch cheese, Mozzarella and one of my personal favorites Brie.

The home baked bakery smelled divine, baguettes, white and brown loaves, croissants, pain au chocolate, chocolate brownies, apple pie, blueberry cheesecake and banoffee pie, all very tempting! There is also pre packaged sour cream, cottage cheese, feta and ricotta cheese all of which will save me battling the traffic up to Tesco!

The dry goods shelf has even more useful items, kettle chips, peanuts, another personal favorite salt and vinegar crisps, ritz crackers, HP sauce, Heinz vinegar, Lea and Perrings, Branston Pickle, olive oil, pasta sauces, Horse Radish, mustards, taco’s and taco sauce, pickled onions and a great range of cooking sauces. Maenam has been crying out for this kind of store for as long as I can remember!

I was licking my lips thinking about the great lunch I was going to make until I spotted the home baked baguettes blackboard and nearly fell over when I saw the size of the bagSAM_0845uettes being served and the really low prices. The large BBQ ham and Cheddar cheese baguette comes packed with both ham and cheese and a choice of lettuce, tomato, cucumber, red onion, red pepper, green pepper, pickles, olives and jalapenos, butter, mayo, ketchup, garlic mayo, cranberry mayo, Dijon mustard, whole grain mustard and horseradish, all included in the price! If you want Branston its 30 baht extra. Other combinations include ham, cheddar cheese and tomato, cheddar cheese and Branston pickle, BLT, Avacado BLT, coronation chicken, chicken and sweet corn, club sandwich, egg mayo, tuna mayo and if you want something a bit more fancy parma ham ad brie or salami, ham and mozzarella or brie, bacon, spinach and cranberry or brie, basil, tomato and rocket and all for under 200 baht, of course you can have all of them on white or brown bread if you prefer and all can be eat in or take away.

SAM_0862This is also a gem of a place to have breakfast, the breakfast baguettes are awesome, streaky bacon, Cumberland sausages, eggs and tomatoes all come in your favorite combination. The full English breakfast and half English breakfast are great value as are the omettles, BBQ Ham, pork sausages, and Farmers breakfast. There is a great range of homemade burgers that are huge and great value too! Did I mention the ice cream smoothies? Awesome!

I decided to stick around and have a cold beer, a ham and cheese sandwich with lettuce, olives, red onions, butter, cranberry mayo and it was delicious. The people in there were all really friendly and I ended up sticking around and watching the world go by on the outdoor terrace for a few hours. This is a really super spot and exactly what this little village needed!
