Father keeps nine-year-old son in cage for five years

A man has admitted to keeping his son, who reportedly suffers from a mental disability, inside a large wooden cage at his house in Krabi for the past five years.
The 38-year-old father, whose name was withheld, said he had to keep his nine-year-old son inside the cage at their house in Tambon Phru Din Na in Klong Thom district for the boy’s own safety.
The father said he had to earn a living, while the boy liked to wander around and could endanger himself.
The man said his wife had left him to take care of the children alone.
The boy was injured in a road accident, after which he appeared to be mentally disabled, the father said.
He said he had decided to build the wooden cage so that the boy would be safe when he left the house.
