Field Of Gold: Husband-Wife Team Plant Thousands Of Marigolds

Visitors streamed Thursday through a golden field of marigolds planted by a couple that are now blooming nicely in the south of Thailand.
Thousands of golden marigolds planted by Aranya Patzke and her German husband Lars Patzke, both 42, have drawn selfie-taking tourists and passers-by stopping for affordable bouquets.
“I love flowers and my German husband loves the peaceful, simple life, so we started planting marigolds to sell for some extra money,” Aranya said.
The husband-wife duo began planting in June. Aranya says caring for the marigolds is difficult work, since they are prone to disease. They make about 500 baht to 600 baht per day from selling the flowers, and hope to open a homestay one day. The pair have been married eight years.
Their field is located in Moo 2 in the Na Muen Si subdistrict of Trang’s Na Yong district close to the Khao Chang Hai Cave. The field is just north of the the Patzkes’ Kiew Chang Cafe coffee shop.
Admission is free, and visitors are welcome to purchase blooms at 80 satang to 1 baht per bloom.
