Financial and health problems: Kiwi pensioner found hanging next to Thai lover at Samui house

Police were called to a rented house in the Mae Nam area of Koh Samui yesterday after a foreign man and a Thai man were found hanging.

The foreigner was a 70 year old New Zealander, the Thai a 45 year old man from Lampang.
There was also a cat lying dead on a red cloth next to an air-con compressor. It appeared to have been strangled.
Mayuree Induang, the daughter of the owner of the house, said that the men were a couple. The New Zealander had rented for ten years and the Thai worked in a hotel on the island.
She said that previously the Thai man had contacted a work colleague through Line saying he wanted to die. He cited financial problems and his partner’s deteriorating health after a stroke.
Another Line message sent yesterday indicating that the Thai was going to kill himself prompted the colleague to go to the house where he found the couple hanging in a walkway next to the property.
Daily News reported that three sealed envelopes were found on the foreigner’s desk with names on the front in English.
The foreigner’s false teeth were found in a plastic box along with a note – apparently written by the Thai – asking someone to put them into his lover’s mouth.
A notebook listing money owed to people was found in front of the house.
The authorities are in the process of informing relatives.
