Up until two years ago, lovers of football did not have a lot of options on where to enjoy a game. Some matches took place on dusty pitches and some on the beach, which is hardly conducive to a playing. Thanks to Peerapol Sathiraku, known to his friends asMoose, these days footballers are enjoying their sport and keeping fit in the fabulous Samui Arena in Chaweng.

The Arena came about when Moose, who grew up in Bangkok, found out that is Samui born mother and Hat Yai born father owned a plot of land in Koh Samui. The plot may have been ideal for a hotel but Moose’s love of football saw the land taking a very different turn. That plot of land was transformed into a football player’s haven and two years ago opened its doors to lovers of the sport from all over the island.
There are two astro-turf football pitches at the arena, a 7 aside pitch and a 5 aside pitch. There are changing and shower facilities for the players and a vast amount of seating for spectators.

For those who enjoy a bit of healthy competition the stadium runs a football league sponsored by FF Noodles. The 7 aside League is made up of eight teams who play off against each other at 6,7,8 and 9pm on Saturday nights, and there is all to play for as the winning team are presented with 20,000 Thb prize money! On Sundays players compete in the F.A cup at 1pm in the afternoon battling for the 5,000 baht prize.

If you enjoy football but are not interested in competing in the league then you might enjoy the Football Buffet that takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. For only 150 baht you can go along make up a team and enjoy a good kick about game. If you would like to play football but don’t yet have the skills then you will be please to know that football coach Chris Dixon holds training sessions from 5pm until 7pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and from 1pm until 5pm on Saturdays.

If you have your own players and just want to hire a pitch then you will be amazed to discover that the Stadium is open until midnight but some nights stays open until 3am so hotel staff can still enjoy a game after a late shift at work. The pitch can be hired for an hour at a time and has a useful electronic timer, the arena supply club bibs so all you need is a pair of sneekers or football boots and some enthusiasm for this popular game.
The arena has a fantastic atmosphere and everybody who enjoys it welcomes new players. The only thing missing in this fabulous space in Chaweng is a café/bar for players to enjoy a beer after a game and spectators to have a drink while enjoying a bird’s eye view of the matches. There is second floor space available to rent if you want to expand your business and a great opportunity to open a new venue in a unique location.
