Former British soldier jailed for 50 years in Thailand

Former soldier Lance Whitmore from Bromsgrove UK has been jailed for 50 years in Thailand for drug dealing. His sentence was handed down at the Ratchada Criminal Court after he was caught with just shy of 200 ecstasy tablets. The arrest was made when he attempted to sell the drugs to an undercover detective.
Whitmore, 26 has already spent eight months behind bars in Klong Prem Prison. He was working in Thailand with Petroleum Oil Services when he was caught in a Pattaya supermarket, yards from his father’s restaurant.
Whitmore’s devastated mother told the press in Birmingham that her son had returned to Thailand in March 2014 following the death of his 25 year old fiancé who died from meningitis, he had lived in the Kingdom on and off for five years. She went on to say that if she could swap places with him she would, and although she knows he has done something wrong there were valid reason why he got mixed up in crime “I know he was not in his right mind. He was vulnerable, very vulnerable. He was in a very bad place” she said. “I just don’t know how he will cope with this sentence. It is the worst possible news”.
