On Friday 20th September members of the Samui Community came together to help island resident Trevor Philips.
Trevor has lived on the island for many years and has a pension back in the UK. Sadly Trevor discovered he has a blood clot on his lung just over a week ago and has been advised by doctors that he needs to have it removed urgently.
For many years Trevor has tried to find a health insurance policy but for reasons beyond his control has not been able to secure one. Without the funds to pay for the life saving surgery the future for Trevor looked very bleak indeed as his pension would not cover the operation that could cost him up to three hundred thousand baht.
Trevor took his sad news to his friend Mario from M&M’s and not being one to sit around doing nothing when a friend is in need Mario organsied a fund raising party to raise some money towards Trevor’s surgery and asked his friends to help with donations and items that could be raffled.
Thankfully for Trevor help was at hand and thanks to the generosity of people in Samui over one hundred thousand baht was raised.
During the evening an auction took place with some incredible prizes. Everybody present was overwhelmed with the generosity from the Absolute World Group who donated a fantastic prize of seven nights in the luxurious and award winning Twin Sands resort in Phuket with, airport transfers, breakfast and Spa treatments worth a whopping one hundred thousand baht as well as a trip to Ang Thong Marine Park. Another man dropped off a Satellite Navigation system, Samui Motors donated a seven day car rental, The Shack gave a meal for two, Starfish and Coffee donated a day at the water park and a meal for two, Super Pro donated VIP seats for four at a boxing match, Terry at Island Info donated a trip to the Marine Park, Samui scooters donated a bottle of champagne, Dreamers donated a meal for two, Harry Bonning from Koh Samui Properties donated a bottle of Run and Louise brought in a lovely stone mosaic. Kata Ocean View saw the appeal on Thai Visa and donated seven night’s accommodation and also through Thai Visa three cash donations came in from Jim Griffin, Alexander Koren and a lady in Australia called renÜxo.
Mario donated the nights profits to Trevor’s cause and his lovely wife Kwan fed the masses with an amazing buffet. Mario put on a live band that kept everybody entertained and island celebrity Jake Robson did a great job as MC and a superb job of beating money out of people during the auction with his charm and charisma, he also donated a case of San Miguel Lite Beer.
Over fifty people attended the evening including Trevor who was completely overwhelmed at how the community has turned out to help save his life. At the end of the evening a very tearful Trevor gave a big thank you and ended the week feeling a lot brighter than he did at the start of it.
