Garbage situation in Koh Samui completely out of control

The undisposed of garbage problem is now completely out of control and hitting news outlets around the country. The Pattaya Mail have reported that Mr. Anond Wathayanont, a member of the development committee of Koh Samui has said the garbage pie has now reached approximately 250,000 tons and the pile is now the same height as a three story building.
The problem started on Samui eight years ago when the incinerator stopped being operable, a problem that is yet to be solved. With approximately 150 tonnes of garbage being produced on the island each day from households and tourist related establishments the problem is growing at an alarming rate.
The municipality have tried to address the problem by hiring people from the private sector to dispose of the rubbish but the contract was terminated due to poor performance. Mr. Anond said that the municipality has sought financial help from the government to fix the incinerator but so far no help has come.
In the meantime the municipality has launched a new publicity campaign to urge business operators and households to separate the garbage into garbage which can and cannot by recycled.
With no end in sight to the Army presence on the island enforcing pub and club closing hours and checking the beach for illegal buildings, it is unfathomable as to why they are not considering a far bigger problem in the way of hundreds of tonnes of rotting garbage that is not only detrimental to the environment but could soon be the cause of the spread of disease throughout the island!
