Hawaii’s Outrigger Resorts expands with purchase of Koh Samui resort

Hawaii-based Outrigger Enterprises Group has acquired the Akaryn Koh Samui Resort and Spa in Thailand for an undisclosed sum in a deal that closed late last week.
The resort remains open and will be rebranded as the Outrigger Resort Koh Samui Beach Resort.
The Koh Samui property will be Outrigger’s third property behind its Outrigger Laguna Phuket Resorts and Villas and Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort. It previously managed the Outrigger Phi Phi Island Resort and Spa, but the hotel was sold a few months ago and the owners took over operations at the hotel, said Nancy Daniels, spokeswoman for Outrigger.
Outrigger Enterprises Group has named Rory Campbell, previously the director of sales and marketing at the Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort, as the Koh Samui property’s general manager.
“The acquisition of this stunning boutique property in Koh Samui complements other recent acquisitions by Outrigger in Phuket, Mauritius, the Maldives and Fiji,” said Darren Edmonstone, Outrigger managing director, Asia Pacific, in a statement.
The acquisition is in line with Outrigger Enterprises Group commitment to an owner-operator model, as well as positioning Outrigger Resorts in its goal to become the premier beachfront resort company.
Outrigger Resort Koh Samui, located in a sandy cover called Hanuman Bay in northeast Samui, is a 52 all-pool suite and villa property with 27 garden pool suits, 18 garden pool villas, four ocean view pool suites and three oceanfront pool suites. The suites measure 861 square feet and the villas are 1,076 square feet.
The property has five food and beverage outlets. The company plans to make enhancements to the property’s public areas, arrival experience, villas and landscaping.
