Home sweet dome, a house built in Thailand in just six weeks for only $9,000

When Hajjar Gibran’s friend Steve Ardeen came to visit him in Thailand in 2011, he was in the middle of building some dome homes for his Thailand retreat center. During his stay Steve wrote on his website “Hajjar and his wife have offered me a spot on their mango farm to build my own dome”.
Using Hajjar’ advice, and the help of his son in law Tao, in just six short weeks and with only $9,000 he had built his own home in north east Thailand. Once built Steve added some of his own personal touches such as doors, shelves, a pond, a gazebo and landscaping. The home is naturally cooled and lit during the daytime thanks to cutouts in the roof, the bedroom is capped with a grass roof and the atrium and bathroom are filled with plants.
It may surprise you to know that Steve is not a builder, he had a long career as a flight attendant and he built his unique home with only two helpers!
