The expanded 3rd annual Koh Samui Open Beach Volleyball Tournament, held 15-17 February 2019 on the tropical island of Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand, was an amazing and successful international event according to the many players, spectators and sponsors in attendance.
Main Sponsors Hooters & Hard Rock Café of Destination Eats and hosted by The Beach Bar Samui and the Koh Samui Beach Volleyball Club, the event took place on beautiful Chaweng Noi beach and attracted a record number of 32 highly experienced and talented men & women teams from around the globe, as well as from across Thailand.
The stunning and highly fought Men’s championship victory for 1st place was awarded to Andrew Freeman and Dima Nizovcev of Team Russia. This is the first year to feature both Men & Women’s teams, with the Women’s Champion Team 1st place team victory win awarded to Yupa Phukrongploy of Thailand and Elena Ponomareva of Russia.
“The cheering crowd and the players enjoyed an extremely high level of play during the 3-day event, raising awareness of this highly popular annual Southeast Asia beach volleyball event and reflecting the global interest of Beach Volleyball”, reported organiser & event director, Cord Biggs.
A long-time island resident and an avid player who founded the group and daily open play at Beach Bar Samui, Biggs announced: “The fourth annual open beach volleyball tournament is in the works for the weekend of 21-23 February 2020”, noting next year’s event promises to be an even bigger and more exciting international beach volleyball event.
The annual volleyball tournament is able to take place with the support of Main Sponsors Hooters & Hard Rock Café of Destination Eats and event hosting by The Beach Bar Samui and the Koh Samui Beach Volleyball Club, along with Island Event Supporters – Scandic Grill and Bar, AIS, SW Law Group, Surat Baan Suay, Trend Fashion, Federico’s Restaurant, SuperPro Samui, K-Club Samui 69 Slam, Chaweng Noi Pool Villa and Home Mart Samui.
