The Laotian authorities has issued the necessary paperwork used in marriages for1,600 people yet 2,000 had got married.

This led to an investigation into seven couples – four in Ubon Ratchathani and three in Udon Thani – who were found to have presented fake guarantees.

An agent called Narongsak has been arrested for fraud.

About 300 other cases are under investigation. 77kaoded said that Thais were the victims after marrying Laotian women. They spoke to a man in Udon Thani called Chuchart, 44, who said that in 2016 he had wanted to marry his Laotian girlfriend.

He had contacted an agent on Facebook because he didn’t have the time to handle all the paperwork himself. He paid the agent 40,000 baht but it now turns out that the documents he supplied were false.
