Irish jockey loses his foot in horrific motorbike accident in Koh Samui

Jockey Brendan McDonagh from Knockerasser, Moycullen Co Galaway was enjoying a short break in Koh Samui when he was involved in a motorbike accident. The 23 year old Irish man decided to visit the island on his way back home after spending two years in Australia. After the accident at the weekend he was treated in hospital for severe injuries to his foot, right arm and shoulder. Doctors were unable to save his right foot and say he has sustained severe nerve damage to his right side. His girlfriend and other friends have been with him at the hospital. His brother Gerry and friend Tim have flown out to be with him – he remains under sedation.
The Irish consulate are liaising with his family, including his parents in Ireland who are unable to travel. A fund raising campaign is underway to help him cope with his medical bills including the Brendan Beano McDonagh Benefit Fund Facebook page. Currently Brendan not well enough to travel, his family and friends hope to raise funds for his ongoing treatment in Samui hospital, his travel expenses back to Ireland and his long term rehabilitation.
