Irrigation projects nationwide prepare for more heavy rain in Thailand

Royal Irrigation Department (RID) Director General Thaweesak Thanadechophon disclosed today that the Meteorological Department has forecast that this week, Thailand will have more rain, with heavy falls in some areas of northern, northeastern, central, eastern and southern Thailand.

People in flood-prone areas are advised to beware of heavy rain which could cause flash floods. However, major rivers throughout the country are still able to receive large volumes of water because the levels of the main rivers, including the Ping River, Wang River, Yom River, Nan River, Chi River, Mun River, Phetchaburi River and other rivers in the eastern and southern regions are still quite low.
Meanwhile, he has instructed all irrigation projects to closely monitor the water situation in their areas especially in flood-prone regions, prepare to cope with changes in the water situation that may occur at any time, inspect irrigation systems, eliminate weeds to prevent them from obstructing waterways, manage water in reservoirs to meet the appropriate criteria, prepare machinery and tools and dispatch officials to flood risk areas throughout the country. People are asked to closely monitor the water situation in their area, during the present frequent downpours.
