Island in mourning for one if its brightest stars – Loubie Rawlings

Loubie Rawlings is one of those names that puts a smile on the face of everybody who encountered her and filled the hearts of those lucky enough to count her as one of their friends. With a twinkle in her eye and a spring in her step Loubie blessed the shores of Koh Samui on Valentine’s Day in 2001 when she arrived determined to make live her life to the full, and in doing so filled our hearts as well as our stomachs when she opened her popular restaurant in Meanam, Cow Pat Boo.
When the restaurant closed, some years later, Loubie took a trip to America where she met Linda, who later became her life partner. Linda joined Loubie in Koh Samui 12 years ago and they made a home together in Bang Por.
Loubie’s life was fun and fulfilling in Samui and she contributed much to the community. Loubie volunteered for the Tourist Police for four years, attending Full Moon Parties where she worked in the ‘sleeping area’ keeping the young attendees safe when they had partied too much. She also worked with several rape cases helping young girls in crisis. Loubie was part of the team that responded to both the Phucket and the Koh Samui plane crashes. She took part in the BBC TV Series “Big Trouble in Tourist Thailand”, as well as interviews for Australian News and French TV about her volunteer work.
Loubie’s love of animals lead her to do Foster Puppy care for Dog Rescue Samui, for one year where she cared for over 55 puppies.
Well known for her quick wit and contagious laugh, she made friends easily.
Koh Samui has tragically lost one of its brightest stars, but our memories of her love for live and her contribution to the Samui community will never leave our hearts or indeed our shores.
Loubie is survived by…Daughter Robyn Buckle, Sisters Leigh and Tracey and life partner Linda. Her cremation will take place on Saturday at 1pm at the Srisuwannaram Temple Laem Hoy.
