Jail sentence for boarder control police

Yesterday the criminal court handed down a seven year sentence to a former Boarder Control officer Pol Captain Nat Chonnitiwanich after he was found guilty of abuse of authority and assault, while his subordinates Niran Taemchuay, Pangsiman Sukkaew, Jakrin Duangkomol and Apisak Polsawat received five years apiece for abuse of authority.
The charges were brought about from a complaint reported on the 6th and 7th of January that Nat and his team had detained a couple for alleged possession of twenty yaba pills in Nakhon Si Thammarat, then tortured them to obtain confessions before demanding two hundred thousand baht for their release.
After being turned over to the police to face legal action the couple charged with illegal drug possession were later acquitted. It was also reported that Nat and seven other Border Patrol officers were sentenced last December to twelve years for kidnapping a woman, planting drugs on her and blackmailing her. Nat was given an additional ten years for raping her while she was being held.
