The Thai Hotel Association of Koh Samui is launching its very first Koh Samui Charity Soap Box Derby Music & Beer festival, after the very successful Koh Samui Midnight run.
The event will be organized by the THA and the staff working in hotels on the island and will be held on Saturday the 14th of December. The main event is a ten hour soap box relay race that will bring the whole community together along with big crowds, concerts and parties.
The organizers would like beer suppliers to come along and introduce a large range of imported beers to the expected 5,000 strong crowd as well as 2000 staff.
The participants will race in teams and will need to make and decorate their own boxes that will need to be ready well ahead of the race and meet the strict criteria of the race officials. The 10 hour race will be run over a 2km circuit along Chaweng lake and will start at midday and finish at 10pm. Concerts will take place along the race circuit that will encourage the teams to keep their boxes rolling.
Proceeds from the race, that will become an annual event on Samui, will be donated to the Special Needs School and the Green Project.
The first, second and third team will be awarded prizes and trophies. Three additional prizes and trophies will be awarded to the most original & inventive soap boxes their teams. Every team member that crosses the finish line will also be given a medal.
The Mayor of Koh Samui Khun Ramnet Jaikwant together with the presidents of the THA and TAKS along with Bangkok Airways PR team and all participating sponsors will be there to present the prizes.
