Dear Mr Editor.

pickpocketsI was targeted by pick-pockets after dark last Sunday evening in Walking Street in Lamai. I’m 73 years of age walk with aid of a stick and easy prey for these low life scum. Walking Street was very crowded, I clearly felt a hand snatch at my shoulder bag as a couple of what looked like Thai youths made off and disappeared into the crow. A universal cowardly trick to play on an old person. I reported the attack at what is described as a Police Station in Lamai, what a joke I awoke a couple of sleeping police who reluctantly took my name and address then told me to report it to the main Police Station in Chaweng before returning to their TV programme like the rest of their colleagues in a room at the rear. The thieves made off with my wallet that contained things that cannot be replaced and my Thai driving license.

I have since discovered that there are teams of these pick-pockets working the fair markets and walking streets around the island. It has been suggested that they are well known to both the police and the street traders who attend these events. I suppose it’s just another scam against us farangs, we’re are all fair game.

Ginger Marks.
