Letter to the editor – Terrorist attacks in Thailand

These cowardly attacks on innocent people will continue to happen, so it’s up to us to stay alert, the police & army can only do so much. I’ve lived happily in Thailand for 13 years but I’ve always said that the places to avoid are the big tourist attractions, big sports events & places where crowds gather. I realise that this will be bad for the businesses of the promoters of these events but the fact remains that the bigger the number of casualties resulting from these attacks, the more coverage there is in the world wide media & consequently more press coverage for the terrorist organisation, whichever it may be.
For my part, I advise friends to stay away from places like “Walking Street” in Pattaya, Kao San Road in Bangkok, Bangla Road in Patong, Phuket, simply because of the number of people who gather there. I like the quieter places, where I can sit & have a comfortable dialogue & maybe a nice meal with a few friends, hustle & bustle & queuing are not for me.
