Luggage bursts into flames on the Bangkok Airways luggage conveyer belt | Samui Times

This morning and item of luggage bound for Phnom Pehn, Cambodia caught fire on the Bangkok airways conveyer belt at Suvarnabhumi airport just before it was due to be loaded to PG 931.

airport fireThe bag contained phosphorus products that the owner of the luggage, who is yet to be named said were intended for demonstrations in the Cambodian capital.

The caretaker transport minister Chadchart Sithipan said that the reason the products caught fire was probably due to the heat. The fire was caught on camera, as were the staff who fled from the scene before one came back with an extinguisher to put out the flames.

Chadchart said the fire may have started because of heat. “It is fortunate that the incident took place before the luggage was loaded onto the plane and not when the plane was in midair. Otherwise it would be very dangerous.
