Man threatens to set himself on fire at the National Police Office

A man walked into the National Police Office Monday morning and threatened to set himself on fire claiming he was falsely charged and heavily indebted.
The man whose identity was not known asked to see Pol Gen Pongpat Pongcharoen, the deputy national police chief, to seek his help. He claimed that he was falsely charged with drug trafficking and had accumulated a huge amount of informal debt.
The man doused himself with kerosene with one hand holding to a lighter as he threatened to set himself on fire.
A handful of traffic and Special Branch policemen who were on duty at the National Police Office tried unsuccessfully to calm him down. However, a traffic policeman managed to rush at the man and wrestled the lighter from him.
The man was subdued and later escorted to a room in the NPO to calm him down.
