Mangrove Planting in Koh Samui

On the 7th of May the Provincial Director for the Environment in Surat Thani, along with sixty volunteers, will take part in a mangrove planting event, in Koh Samui, in order to recover the natural balance of the ecosystem and conserve natural recourses.
The team plan to plant five hundred Rhizophora mangroves that are an important food source for fish, act as a nursery for aquatic larvae, help maintain the ecological balance of the coast line and provide a habitat for several animal species. They also play an important role in protecting the costal soil erosion.
The Planting will take place from 8-30 – 16-30 in Tambon Taling Ngam, Koh Samui, over an area of five acres.
The mangroves will not only protect the shoreline from storm damage and monsoon winds, waves and floods but reducing the amount of carbon dioxide in the air creating a healthier environment along the shore.
