Manhunt for a motorcycle gang which killed a police volunteer

A manhunt was launched by Chon Buri police for a group of motorcyclists who tried to escape from a police road block and shot dead one police volunteer.
The incident took place on Nong Pungpui rural road in Tambon Thung Sookla, Si Racha district of Chon buri at about 5 am.
The victim, identified as Chamnong Thongsiri, a police volunteer, was helping a police unit manning a roadblock police in Tambon Thung Sookla when two motorcycles with four men riding on the pillions.
Upon seeing the roadblock, the motorcyclists turned back their vehicles and tried to escape prompting Chamnong to grab a police motorcycle and to give chase.
After a brief motorcycle chase, one of the two pillion riders whipped out a 9mm pistol and fired four shots at Chamnong. Two shots hit the motorbike he was riding, another shot hit his leg and the fourth hit his head, killing him at the scene.
Later on Pol Maj-Gen Amphon Buarupporn, Chon Buri provincial police commander, travelled to Laem Chabang police station to hold an emergency meeting to track down the perpetrators.
A separate team of police was assigned to extract footages from surveillance cameras installed at the crime scene and suspected escape routes in an attempt to try to identify the perpetrators and where they were heading after the shooting incident.
Meanwhile, 30,000 baht in compensation was presented to the victim’s family by Chon Buri police chief and police from Nong Kham and Chon Buri.
