Medics struggle for hours to get obese man to hospital in Rayong

Sawang Pornkuson foundation medics struggled for two hours to extricate a 300 kilogram man from his Rayong house yesterday after he developed breathing difficulties.
An ordinary stretcher was useless and they had to fashion a lifting device made from a mattress to move 29 year old Suksornchai Poonkhan from his house at the Sri Sunthorn housing estate in Nern Phra district, reported Thai News Agency.
Then when they finally got him outside they realized that it was impossible to get him in the ambulance.
So he was loaded on the back of a pick-up and taken to hospital.
Relatives said that Suksornchai’s weight was quite normal up until December when he had an operation.
Thereafter he had been told not to consume more than 800 milliliters of water a day but he had been unable to stick to this in the hot weather.
His weight had ballooned by over 200 kilos in three months, they said, leaving him housebound and desperate.
Yesterday he developed breathing difficulties and needed urgent treatment. He is now under observation in hospital.
