The Samui Times caught up with Mark Shepherd to find out what he does on the island and what he feels are the common misconceptions about time share.

Hi Mark, thanks for meeting with us today. Where do you come from and how long have you lived in Koh Samui?

I am originally from the UK in fact a true Essex boy through and through. I have live in Koh Samui for three years now.

What do you do here?

I am the sales manager for the Absolute World Group Samui

That sounds like a demanding role, how many staff do you have under you?

I have around 15 English, French and German Staff, there are also around 40 Thai staff working in the Koh Samui office.

How does working in Samui differ to other countries you have worked in?

The weather takes some getting used to. But the hardest thing to deal with is when you finish the day and sometimes just want to go home have a dip in the pool and relax you find yourself in the local bar because every bar you drive past has someone in there that you know.

What are the main challenges you face in your job?

The main challenges I face are keeping everybody in my team happy, positive and motivated.

What are the common misconceptions about Fractional Ownership?

People compare it to timeshare from the 80s and are scared that their investment won’t make them money. True fractional is the future.

What are you doing change the face of what most people consider to be Timeshare?

Here at absolute we treat our future members like our own family, showing them exactly what we do and how it will work for them, we know our product is not for everyone so there is no hard sale.

How many resorts do you have in Koh Samui?

We have access to 3 resorts on Samui, plus by the end of the year there will be our first absolute branded resort here.

Do Absolute have other projects in the pipeline?

Absolute have plenty of projects in the pipeline but they can’t be disclosed just yet

What do you do when you are not working?

I love spending time with my two girls. I have a lovely Thai girlfriend soon to be my wife plus the most beautiful 4 year old daughter. Being with them makes life perfect.

As for just me I love playing pool on a Monday and Wednesday. I am the captain of Bamboo that plays in the Tropical Murphy’s Monday Night Pool League, and Nang Su Pim who play in the M&M’s Wednesday Night Pool League.
