Meeting set on proposal to move Dusit Zoo

The Zoological Park Organisation will next Tuesday (December 12) consider relocating Dusit Zoo – Thailand’s oldest – from downtown Bangkok to a 300-rai property in Khlong Hok, Pathum Thani.
Park Organisation deputy director Suriya Saenpong said on Friday details of the proposed move would become clearer at the meeting.
An initial survey had been conducted at the site in Pathum Thani’s Thanyaburi district, deeded to the agency last week by His Majesty the King, Suriya said.
It was the first step in the process of moving an established zoo – an undertaking that generally takes about three years.
The organisation needs to consider landscape architecture for display zones appropriate to each type of animal, Suriya said.
Dusit Zoo, also known as Khao Din, holds around 1,000 animals and attracts two million visitors a year, generating Bt130 million in annual income.
