Min of Justice hands seed money to ex-drug addicts

Justice Minister Gen Paiboon Khumchaya has presided over the ceremony to hand out seed money at the Office of Narcotics Control Board (ONCB).
Seed money was handed to a drug withdrawal club as well as 65 former addicts who have successfully completed the ONCB’s drug rehabilitation program.
In attendance were Justice Vice Minister Gen Nivat Meenayotin and ONCB Secretary-General Narong Rattananukul. Other agencies represented at the ceremony include the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Department of Probation, Royal Thai Police, and the Ministries of Interior, Labor, and Public Health.
The project is one of the government’s efforts to reduce crime and the number of drug addicts. Those taking the drug withdrawal program were taught job skills and received monetary aid.
In 2015, over 23,000 rehabilitation participants registered for government aid, of which nearly 11,700 have received seed money.
