Minister of Tourism calls to eradicate influential operators and their illegal practices in Koh Phangang | Samui Times

On the 14th of August there was a meeting at the Fair House Beach Resort & Hotel between Mr. Somsak Puresrisak, Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr Pongchat Chattaraputi, Surat Thani Provincial Governor and tour operators from Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.

Approximately two hundred people were in attended the meeting was called to discuss ways to build tourist confidence in the area and encouraging more tourists to visit the islands. One of the major points raised was the need for cooperation between local enterprises to stamp out illegally run businesses, and how to find a solution to problems with influential and illegal operators in the area. The main area of concern being the beach area 1 meeting 2where the Full Moon Party takes place in Koh Phangan each month. Problems here stem from groups such as the mafia who sell illegal liquor and employ people illegally. The Minister of Tourism and Sport decisively stated that this area must be cleaned up and anybody found to be using the services of illegal staff or trading illegally would be arrested immediately.
