Minister of Tourism and Sports to reassure the Russian Ambassador Samui is a safe island for Russian tourists

The Minister of Tourism and Sports is making preparations to meet with the Russian Ambassador on the 26th of November in order to reassure Russian tourists visiting Koh Samui that the island is a safe holiday destination.
Recently The Russian Union of Travel Industry (RUTI), which represents more than five thousands groups and state agencies related to the tourism industry in Russia, urged Thai authorities to improve the safety in Thailand for visiting Russians or it may face a boycott from its members.
The Minister of Tourism and Sports Somsak Phureesrisak said on 26 November that he would like to invite the Ambassador of Russia to met with the Minister of Transport,Chadchart Sittipunt, who would like an opportunity to point out that many of the accidents on Koh Samui are caused by young travelers who use motorbikes to get around the island despite not having any experience of the roads in Koh Samui and many of them have no experience of riding bikes either. He went on to say that many visitors to the island do not respect the traffic rules and often drive drunk without helmets, and that is the main cause of deaths on the roads of the island.
