More than 9,000 foreigners busted for illegal entry into Thailand

During a weeklong crackdown in Thailand this weekend over 9,000 foreigners were busted for illegally entering the country. Four of them were wanted by Interpol. 9038 have been charged with violating the 1979 Immigration act and 18 were charged with violating the criminal code, a further 209 where charged in accordance with other laws.
Those arrested included at 23 year old Russian female and a 24 year old Russian man wanted on fraud charges by Interpol. It has been alleged that the female, who had been working as a bank manager in Russia had siphoned off 954,000 baht from a clients account and deposited it in the Russian males account and put a further 4 million baht into her own secret account. Russian police issued arrested warrants for both of them and cancelled their passports before they were apprehended in Pattaya.
It is unclear whether more crackdowns will be taking place in other parts of the country popular with those who enter the country illegally.
