Nine southern provinces told to brace for big waves and strong winds during Jan 23-26

People living on and near the coasts of nine southern provinces were on Friday warned to brace for strong winds and big waves from Saturday until next Tuesday.
Fishermen were also told to refrain from venturing out to the open sea in the Gulf while tourists were warned to stop all maritime activities and to not swim in the sea during the same period for their own safety. Tourist operators were also told to stop their sea or island tours until the weather has returned to normal.
The nine southern provinces to be struck by big waves and strong winds as a result of strong northeastern monsoon covering the Gulf are Prachuab Khiri Khan, Chumporn, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat.
Officials from the Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department and rapid reaction units have been put on standby around the clock. People living near the sea were told to check their houses to make sure they are strong enough to withstand the strong winds.
