No human infection of bird flu assured

The Department of Disease Control says there is no human infection case of bird flu although poultry deaths were reported in five provinces.
Assurance of no human infection was given by the director-general of the Department of Disease Control Dr Jetsada Chokdumrongsuk following poultry deaths in Songkhla, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Suphanburi, Sukhothai, and Phitsanulok.
He said the department continued to monitor the spread of bird flu although there was no human infection case for the past 12 years.
But for the unusual poultry deaths, he said the department received reports from these five provinces in June alone.
As a precaution to prevent spreading, he asked the people to report to health volunteers and officials if they found poultry deaths in their areas.
For the report of poultry deaths in Srisachanalai and connected districts in Sukhothai province, the deputy director general of the Livestock Department Sorawit Thanitho has inspected the areas and found the chicken have died from cholera.
He has instructed authorities to tighten prevention measures to contain the disease.
For a 62-year old patient reported to have eaten in the sick chicken, it has found that he suffered normal cold sickness, not bird flu.
